ANB/ANS Grand Camp Convention

Monday, October 5, 20263:00 pmWednesday, October 7, 20266:00 pm
TBA

Alaska Native Brotherhood & Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 14 are joined by Camp 15 Saxman to celebrate!

"Grand Camp, a gathering of all the delegates from the communities across Southeast, is about start in our very own landless community of Kichx̱áan (Ketchikan).

The Alaska Native Brotherhood (ANB) and the Alaska Native Sisterhood (ANS) are powerful civil rights organizations who advocate for Indigenous rights within Southeast Alaska. ANB was founded in 1912, and ANS was founded in 1915. The organizations were a big part of advocating for equal rights and ending Jim Crowe laws by helping to pass the Alaska Equal Rights Act of 1945.

They were also a part, along with other Alaska Native entities, in laying the foundation of decades of legal battles that grew into the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1971, which is the legislation we are trying to amend and make right to include our five landless communities.

Many ancestors have fought to bring this legislation to where it is today. Many of their descendants are still fighting. As the bill moves through congress and our people come together, let's continue to remind leadership that this is but a bookmark in our story, and that our totem poles have been chapters long before stories were written in English."

The Art of Leadership: Lessons from the American Presidency

Wednesday, October 7, 2026

UAS Ketchikan Campus Library

Join us for “The Art of Leadership: Lessons from the American Presidency” with Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jon Meacham on Wednesday October 7th @ 7pm at the UAS Ketchikan Campus Library, 2600 7th Avenue.

This presentation is part of the UAA College of Arts and Sciences Community Lecture Series, and it is important to note that we will not be streaming it on Facebook.

We hope to see you there!

“Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jon Meacham explores what 21st-century leaders across a range of fields can learn from the greatest moments of our shared past. This nonpartisan presentation highlights lessons from Jefferson's pragmatism and JFK's ability to recover from his own mistakes to the management of conflicting egos demonstrated by Reagan and FDR, as well as how George H.W. Bush navigated the end of his presidency. Meacham shows how history can inform the decisions we make every day in roles that demand creative and innovative solutions.” -UAA
